Thoughts…
I hadn’t read the synopsis before I gave this book a go, so wasn’t sure what it was really about but it was a great read. The story straight away from the first page engages you with the setting then as you read on you get pulled further and further into this strange world. The mystery of what is happening and also the way it is all presented to us is handled really well and paced perfectly. There could have been a lot of confusion going into the setting but it's done in an almost calm manner so your brain just goes along with it as if it's all normal.
I think the art goes a long way to helping with the tone and feel of the story, at times well defined in its details then suddenly ethereal as more is revealed. The colours all lend themselves to portraying a more slow paced methodical series, I don’t think this will be an all out action series going forward but more focused on character and situation.
I am expecting this series to be quite intriguing as it continues, there is an interesting story here that is only touched upon on this first issue and I feel the way the mystery has been presented to us will keep us coming back for more. Definitely one of the highlights of recent weeks, I would give this 8.5 out of 10, great first issue.
