Synopsis…Time travel is a tricky thing, which Chrono-Cat has found out the hard way when his
noble intentions have inadvertently led to a disastrous outcome. The reappearance of Colonel Krypto, now armed with a formidable zombie army, threatens to plunge the world into chaos. As despair creeps in, a glimmer of hope emerges in the form of a magical imp named Jedidiah, offering Chrono-Cat a single wish that could potentially change the course of events forever.
Thoughts…I can remember reading the first volume of Chrono-Cat and really enjoying the whole tone. It had some great comedic threads throughout and did a good job of straddling the line of being an all ages read. Would this second volume keep that same vibe to it or would this be something different?
I would say that it definitely retains a great deal of humour, in fact I think it has been elevated for the second volume, the opening section of the story is testament to that for sure. Though I will say that the humour has moved away from it being as all ages as the first volume as there are call backs to some older nerdy stuff that I really liked. Also I like the shout out to Megatomic Battle Rabbit as well, could this be time for a crossover?
I really enjoyed getting back to the Chrono-Cat universe, this issue shows gives us a great look at the what happened next side of things from volume one and just when it seems all is lost to another time we get a chance of redemption and return to the status quo but is all as it seems or are somethings to good to be true? The issue ends with a cliffhanger and I will say it came way too quickly. Just as it got really going the issue finished and I really wanted more, but isn’t that what you want from a first issue? To be reeled in and to want to instantly want to read on, that feeling of I just have to know what comes next is something comics does well and this one gets it spot on. There is nothing of Stu Perrins I will not read as he just nails everything he comes out with, and Chrono-Cat is definitely one of my faves. This 2nd volume does a great job of paying tribute to the original and then pushing it that bit further, I am really looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. I would give this first issue 8 out of 10, can’t wait for that 2nd issue…
